Stone by Stone: a cemetery preservation workshop

Webb City Area Genealogical Society

Webb City “Wild Rose” Cemetery was the site Saturday morning of Stone by Stone, a series of demonstrations about preserving cemeteries.

Two of the demonstrations were presented by Kurt Jordan, the KC Cemetery Man. He restored a tablet that had broken in half.  And then he took on the challenge of uprighting a headstone that had fallen and come apart. He reset its base and then hoisted the top stone to reapply it.

Other demonstrations included headstone cleaning and locating  unmarked graves.

A crew from Mt. Hope Cemetery was recruited Friday night to reset the finial atop a tall headstone in the cemetery.

The event was sponsored by the Jasper County Cemetery Preservation Society. For more information, call (417) 629-4914 or visit the group’s Facebook page.
