In 1904, a variety of activities were planned for the 4th of July celebration at Lakeside Park.

The Carterville Band was scheduled to provide the music in the afternoon and evening.

Other attractions and events included:

• A death-defying balloon ascension and parachute leap.

• Performances from the Spedden Paige Company vaudeville act.

• Entertainment for the children provided by Professor Hedrick with his Shetland ponies, Mexican burros and goats.

• Sack races, foot races, greased pig chases, wheelbarrow races and greased-pole climbing.

• Bathing, boating, canoe and tub races.

Extra street cars would be available to transport the anticipated record-breaking crowds.
