Dog park
is open
By popular demand, Webb City dogs now have a park of their own (in King Jack Park), where they can run and play with other dogs – or beg for their owner's attention. Parks director Bryan Waggoner says the parks crew isn't finished with the dog park – but it's open and being used a lot. It's located by the soccer fields.

Plans are underway for two celebrations in Webb City in 2026 – the 150th anniversary of the founding of Webb City and the 100th anniversary of Route 66.

Mayor Lynn Ragsdale announced during the City Council meeting Monday that teams have begun planning events for both anniversaries.

Webb City was incorporated on Dec. 8, 1876, and Route 66 was commissioned on Nov. 11, 1926.

Erin Turner, community development director, said the annual Route 66 Cruise-A-Palooza event would be a natural time to celebrate Webb City being on the Mother Road. This year’s Cruise-A-Palooza will be held on July 12.

She added that Webb City’s 150th anniversary celebration would fit in with the city’s Christmas lighting extravaganza and Polar Bear Express rides, starting after Thanksgiving.

On other matters, the council:

• Completed approval of an ordinance making it illegal to park along Powell Drive.

• Passed a resolution directing city records that have exceeded their retention requirements to be disposed. City Clerk Kim DeMoss noted the resolution is required for the annual procedure, according to state law.
