28-win Cardinals start districts as No. 1 seed at Willard

Webb City volleyball continued winning Tuesday as the Cardinals closed out the regular season in straight sets at home against Joplin.

Their goal now is to not be upset in districts that start at 1 p.m. Saturday in Willard with the No. 1-seeded Cardinals facing eighth-seeded Parkview. Carl Junction, seeded second, will play McDonald County at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Semifinals are at 5 and 7 p.m. Monday. The championship game will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The 28-4-2 Cardinals defeated Joplin 25-14, 25-19, 25-16.

Aubree Lassiter and Jaeli Rutledge had 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Kate Brownfield added nine kills and eight digs. Kyah Sanborn had 28 sets.

Sophia Crane was the dig leader, with 20. Brenda Lawrence had 14.

It was the last home game for seniors Lawrence, Sanborn and Brownfield.

Webb City to host district soccer tourney

Webb City boys soccer have two games next week to finish up regular-season play, with games scheduled at Republic Tuesday and at home Thursday against McDonald County.

Starting Saturday, Oct. 29, Webb City will host the  Class 3 District 6 tournament.

And the 9-10 Cardinals are seeded first.

In the opening round, they’ll face Ruskin at 11 a.m. Second-seeded Willard will play seventh-seeded Carl Junction at 2:30 p.m.

Semifinals will be at 5 and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1. The championship game will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3.
