Cecil Petefish contributed this picture postcard of the Alba School, taken when it was new in 1907.
He also enclosed a program from the 85th anniversary celebration in 1992. Two of the poems printed in the program (below) were “I Remember” and “The Alba School.”
Sadly, Alba School seems endangered. Attempts to repurpose the building have not been successful.
Cole and Mary Davis, of American History Holdings Inc., PO Box 215, Alba, were reported to have purchased the building from the city for $20,000. In 2017, they announced plans to renovate the original school building, and gym and cafeteria buildings for business classes, an event center and restaurant. Those plans and the buildings have apparently been abandoned.
The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
