The district softball tournament continues in Webb City Thursday – without the host team playing.
Webb City’s season ended in the semifinal round Wednesday night with a 3-1 loss to second-seeded McDonald County. The Cardinals defeated Bolivar 7-0 in the opening round Tuesday night.
The championship will be determined at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, when McDonald County and top-seeded Nevada meet.
Webb City’s season ends with a 17-19 record. A majority of team’s players are freshmen and sophomores. In fact, coach Shauna Friend is not losing any seniors.
The 26-4-2 Webb City volleyball team has two home games left before entering the district tournament as the No. 1 seed.
The Cardinals followed up their Lori Endicott tournament championship on Saturday at Willard with straight-set wins at McDonald County Monday and at Ozark Tuesday.
Branson’s Pirates will be here Thursday, and Joplin will be here Tuesday for the last regular-season game.
Districts start Saturday, Oct. 22, at Willard.
No. 1 Webb City will play Parkview in the first district game, which will be at 1 p.m. Saturday.
No. 2 Carl Junction will play McDonald County at 4 p.m., and No. 3 Branson will play Willard at 5:30 p.m.
Semifinals will be Monday, Oct. 24, and the final will be played at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25.
Webb City’s kill leaders are Aubree Lassiter, Brenda Lawrence, Jaeli Rudledge and Kate Brownfield. Sophia Crane consistently leads in digs, and Kyah Sanborn is the set specialist.
