Southwestern Missourians will be represented in Washington D.C. by a new senator, Eric Schmitt, and congressman, Eric Burlison, as a result of the Nov. 8 mid-term election.

We’ll also be represented in Jefferson City by a new senator, Jill Carter, who defeated incumbent Bill White in the Republican primary and was unopposed Tuesday.

It was a clean sweep for Republicans statewide and locally. The latest results can be found on the secretary of state website.

County Clerk Charlie Davis reports Jasper Countians generally voted the same way as the rest of the state – except for the recreational marijuana question. In Jasper County, nearly 59% voted against Amendment No. 3 (20,365 to 14,173).

In the lone contested race in Jasper County, incumbent John Bartosh was reelected as presiding commissioner by defeating Joshua Shackles 25,619 to 8,191.

Missourians will be able to purchase marijuana for recreational use because the statewide vote was 1,089,326 yes (53%) to 961,909 no.
