A real photo postcard of 524 S. Hall St., Webb City. The house is no longer there.
We recently acquired a real photo postcard showing the D.C. Julian home located at 524 S. Hall St. The photo was taken on March 28, 1914, and it appears Sarah Jane Julian might be the lady in the front yard.
Sarah Jane Daniel was born on April 3, 1954, in Illinois. She married David Clarkson Julian on Feb. 6, 1877, in Parke County, Ind.
D.C. Julian was born on June 18, 1850, in Randolph County, N.C.
The family was living in Vernon County, Missouri, by 1880 and first appeared in Webb City on the 1900 census. In 1910, the Julian family is listed as living at 524 S. Hall Street.
Prior to his marriage to Sarah Jane Daniel, D.C. was married to a woman named Mary Jane Gregson. They moved to Missouri where Mary Jane died during her second pregnancy. Sarah Jane helped to raise D.C. and Mary’s first child, Anna Julian.
D.C. and Sarah Jane went on to have six other children: Maude, Clara, Henry C., Lena, Vida and Ray.
Sarah Jane died on Dec. 29, 1918, in Webb City. She is buried in Webb City Cemetery.
D.C. was listed as living in the home at 524 S. Hall in 1920. He died on Feb. 18, 1925, in Los Angeles, Calif., and is buried in Hermosa Gardens Cemetery in Colton, Calif.
The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
