Peggy Lynn Carrozzo, age 59, of Webb City, passed away on Thursday, July 6, at her home. No services are planned at this time.
Arrangements are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home.
Feb. 21, 1942 – July 10, 2023
Gary Richards Dawson, age 81, lifelong resident of Webb City, passed away on Monday, July 10, peacefully after a long battle with multiple illnesses. Gary was born Feb. 21, 1942, in Webb City, son of the late Alfred and Alma Dawson. He graduated from Webb City High School and continued his education at Pittsburg (Kan.) State University.
He married Dixie Ruth Fisher on June 24,1966. They were blessed with one son, Michael, on Nov. 4,1974, and enjoyed over 43 years of loving marriage.
Gary’s early work experience included a position at Broadway Market in Webb City, where he worked in the meat department. However, it was his role in the family furniture company that truly defined his professional life. For over 60 years, he dedicated himself to the success of the business.
A man of deep faith, Gary was an active member of First Baptist Church of Webb City. He served as the music director, using his talents to uplift and inspire the congregation. His passion for church music was shared with much of his community, as he dedicated over 50 years to serving in various area churches and singing with multiple gospel quartets.
In addition to his commitment to his church, Gary also found fulfillment in giving back to his community. He volunteered his time as a board member of the Jasper County Sheltered Facilities and served on various Webb City committees. Gary’s selflessness and dedication to serving others will be remembered as one of his greatest legacies.
Above all, Gary cherished his role as a loving father and grandfather. His granddaughter, Marina Tallman, brought him immense joy, and he was devoted to supporting her in realizing her dreams.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Dawson, and a sister-in-law, Treva Dawson.
Gary is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Amy Dawson; his granddaughter, Marina A. Tallman; his brothers and their wives, Jim and Cheri Dawson, and Jack and Nancy Dawson, as well as a host of additional family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Gary will be remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated servant of his church, and a pillar of his community. His impact on the lives of those around him will not be forgotten.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2023, at First Baptist Church, Webb City, with Pastor Joe Williams and Rev. Nathan Dawson officiating.
Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, with Jeremy Dawson, Brendan Dawson, Jonathan Dawson, Spencer Dawson, Zachary Dawson, and Joseph Dawson serving at pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home in care of Parker Mortuary. on Wednesday July 12, 2023 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Nov. 6, 1926 – July 6, 2023
Virginia L. ‘Ginger’ English, age 96, formerly of Webb City, passed away peacefully with family and friends by her side on Thursday, July 6, at Westgate at Wildwood in Joplin. Ginger was born Nov. 6, 1926, in Joplin to the late Claire F. Phillips and Margaret Wilcoxson Phillips.
Ginger worked for the Webb City School District as a teacher’s aide for many years. After retirement, she became a homemaker, always making her family a true priority. She was an active member of Royal Heights United Methodist Church until her health stopped her from being able to attend. You could find Ginger at her favorite shopping place, Walmart, quite often or enjoying all the many activities she loved like camping, playing cards or just visiting all her precious friends.
Other than her parents, Ginger is preceded in death by two husbands, Paul Benjamin and later David English; two sons and their wives, Steve Benjamin and wife Anita, and Charles Benjamin and wife Linda; and one sister, Bonnie Fielding.
Those surviving Ginger include a son, David Benjamin and wife Cheryl, of Olathe, Kan.; five grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and extended family and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Royal Heights United Methodist Church of Joplin. Arrangements are under the direction of Hedge-Lewis Goodwin Funeral Home.
Sept. 27, 1934 – July 9, 2023
Donna Pauline Hodson, 88, of Joplin, departed this life on Sunday evening, July 9, at National Health Care Center in Joplin, after a brief battle with cancer.
Donna entered this life on Sept. 27, 1934, in Chicago, Ill., daughter of the late Edwin Paul Hitchcock and Devota Helen Major. She was raised and attended schools in Webb City and Alba.
On Nov. 11, 1951, she was united in marriage to Donald Frederic Hodson, and to this union two sons were born, Bruce and Lance.
Donna was a devoted homemaker throughout her life. She enjoyed working in her flowerbeds, knitting projects, music and classic movies. She was an avid follower of the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of nearly 70 years, Donald Hodson, on Nov. 6, 2021; and a son, Lance Clayton Hodson.
Donna is survived by one son, Bruce Hodson and wife Becky, of Joplin; and two grandchildren, Haley Hodson, Webb City, and Zak Hodson and wife, Ashley, Joplin.
Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, with Pastor Jim Bowles officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home.
