Author Kimberly Harper announces her second book, “Men of No Reputation: Robert Boatright, the Buckfoot Gang, and the Fleecing of Middle America,” is now available.
Boatright and his gang of confidence men, operating out of Webb City at the turn of the century, swindled dozens of victims out of millions of dollars on fixed foot races, prize fights, and even a rigged bicycle race. A further description and opportunity to buy the book are on Amazon.
Harper’s first book, “White Men’s Heaven: The Lynching and Expulsion of Blacks in the Southern Ozarks, 1894-1909,” earned the Missouri Humanities Council Distinguished Achievement in Literature (Non-Fiction) Award.

The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
