Photographs are one of the best parts of family research. By exploring your history you will often find old photos that have been shared online at sites such as Ancestry.com or Findagrave.com. This photo, from the 1950s, is not identified. If you know any of the people or can identify the place, please contact us.

If you are interested in starting a journey into your family history, the volunteers at the Webb City Area Genealogical Society can help you get started. Our research room is located on the third floor of the Webb City Library and we have a wealth of resources to utilize.

Our vast collection includes high school annuals from area towns, local cemetery books, city directories and telephone books, maps, newspapers spanning over 100 years and much more.

The WCAGS was organized in 1990 and continues to serve the community, preserving family and local community history. Over the years, volunteers have read newspapers on microfilm and created a reference card catalog of area births, deaths and marriages. We also have subscriptions to online resources such as Ancestry.com, Fold 3 (military records), Newspapers.com and Newspaperarchives.com that are available for your use.

For more information, you may email us at webbcitygen@gmail.com, call (417) 673-0398 or drop in for a visit. Hours are Monday-Friday, 12 to 4 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Our address is Webb City Public Library, 101 S. Liberty St., Webb City, MO 64870.

One of the most important tools used for genealogical research is a program to organize your family tree. Legacy Family Tree is a program that is used by some of our members. It allows the researcher to chart their family tree with spaces for individuals to record births, deaths, marriages and children. There is a free version available for download that is perfect for compiling your research.
