Mining was grim, deadly work, but not always serious

The photos of miners we’re sharing this week may be ones you haven’t seen before. They were found in our files on the third floor of the Webb City Public Library.

The group photo is unidentified, however, we think the accompanying newspaper article underscores how dangerous it was to be a miner.

That’s not to say there couldn’t also be some lighthearted moments, such as in the boxing photo below.

WCAGS members staff the Genealogy Room on the third floor of the Webb City Public Library. Current hours are noon to 4 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Meetings are held at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month in the Genealogy Room.
