City Hall is more accessible

Opening the front doors at Webb City Hall got easier Tuesday after mechanisms were installed to make them open at the push of a plate.

There was already a ramp for wheelchair-users, but as City Administrator Carl Francis reported to the City Council, staff often didn’t notice those outside waiting for assistance. Plates to push were installed at the base of the ramp for entrance and inside for exit.

Overhead Door of Joplin submitted the low bid of $6,308.

There are also plans to install a similar mechanism on the exterior restroom door at the Webb City Farmers Market kitchen. The cost of that project will be shared by the city and market.

The council’s next meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14.
