OBITUARY

Larry Crane

Jan. 22, 1958 – Oct. 21, 2024

Larry Wade Crane, 66, of Duenweg, entered this life on Jan. 22, 1958, in Joplin, the sixth of 10 children born to the late Eugene and Sylvia (Holden) Crane. He passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday morning, Oct. 21, 2024, after a long illness.

Raised in Oronogo, Larry was a 1977 graduate of Webb City High School. His thirst for knowledge and commitment to his faith led him to attend Grace Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa. Larry’s dedication to his country was evident through his faithful service in the U.S. Army. After receiving an honorable discharge, he spent time living in Louisiana and California. In 1996, Larry returned to his roots in Oronogo and eventually settled in Duenweg, where he would spend over two decades of his life.

Professionally, Larry was a self-employed contractor for a number of years. His interests were a reflection of his love for the outdoors and the simple joys of life. He loved to shoot pool, and westerns were his go-to genre. He could often be found relaxing with a classic film or TV show immersed in the tales of the old West. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and reminded family and friends when the games were on. In his younger years, fishing was a favored pastime.

Larry is survived by three brothers, Stan Crane and wife Patty, Webb City, Raymond Crane and wife Sheila, Webb City, and Jimmy Crane and wife Charlene, Joplin; five sisters, Laura Roush, Patricia Crane, Sandy Miller, Kay Crane and Debbie Crane, all of Joplin; a brother-in-law, Leroy Smith, Sarcoxie; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, in Oronogo Cemetery, with his brother, Stan Crane, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, in care of the funeral home.
