Cardinals – girls and boys – seeded 4th in districts

The Cardinals are wrapping up their regular basketball seasons with home games against Joplin on Thursday and Friday.

But that won’t be the end of basketball yet in the Cardinal Dome because Webb City is hosting the boys Class 5 District 6 tournament next week starting with the four-game opening round on Wednesday.

Webb City (13-12), ranked No. 4, will play No. 5 Hillcrest in the last game on Wednesday, at 8:30 p.m.

No. 2 Parkview and No. 7 West Plains will kick off the tournament at 4 p.m.

Next, at 5:30 p.m., will be No. 3 Carl Junction vs. No. 6 Willard.

No. 1 Springfield Central will face No. 8 McDonald County at 7 p.m.

The opening round of the girls Class 5 District 6 tournament will be Thursday at Willard.

No. 4 Webb City (17-8) and the No. 5 host team will play at 5:30 p.m.

The first game, at 4 p.m. will be No. 1 Marshfield (21-5) against No. 8 Parkview.

No. 2 Hillcrest will play No. 7 Springfield Central at 7 p.m.

And the last game of the opening round, at 8:30 p.m., will be No. 3 West Plains against No. 6 McDonald County.

The Carl Junction girls are No. 7 in the Class 5 District 7 tournament at Belton, which also opens next  Thursday.

Double-header Neosho win

Both Cardinal varsity squads got wins against Neosho Monday in the Cardinal Dome.

After falling behind 16-7 in the first quarter, the girls came back to win 56-44. Addie Burns and Abby Sargent led offensively, with 15 and 13 points, respectively.

Holton Keith, with 20 points, led the boys to a 71-53 win over the Wildcats. Dalton Riggs had 11 rebounds.

Last Friday, during another varsity double-header in the Dome, the girls fell to Ozark 46-41 and the boys lost 65-54.

Sargent scored 19 and grabbed 12 rebounds. Adalyn Maxwell added 14 rebounds.

For the boys, Keith scored 21, and Slade Hurd added 19, including six 3-pointers.
