Webb City Area Genealogical Society
Webb City Area Genealogical Society volunteers on the Third Floor have a couple of nice circa-1900 photos of Lakeside Park to show you this week.
One was labeled “Lakeside Concession, Frank McCutcheon.”
Only mention of a Frank McCutcheon could be found in the Webb City Sentinel archives, and it wasn’t that informative.
The Lakeside Inn offered lodging for patrons of Lakeside Park. It was located across from the entrance to the park on the west side of the streetcar tracks.
In 1903 the Sentinel reported that J.S. Carpenter and sons, who had ran the Lakeside hotel, depot and pavilion stand at the popular resort, sold out and moved to Oregon. C.B. Killingsworth, of Springfield, purchased the lease and furnishings of the hotel. Mr. Killingsworth was an experienced hotel man, and it was noted that he was well qualified to run the well-patronized hostelry.
