There’s a new trail in the Cardinal Valley Habitat that was officially opened with a ribbon cutting on Thursday, Sept. 4, by the Joplin Trails Coalition.
The coalition’s long-range plan is to be able to walk, run and bike between the Frisco Greenway Trail in Webb City and the Ruby Jack Trail in Oronogo.
The new trail is just a segment, about 1 1/2 miles long, round trip – starting from the new parking lot adjacent to the recycling center on North Madison Street, following the trail to Center Creek, turning around and coming back.
Michael Atkinson, president of the coalition, said it is hoped this short section will demonstrate to donors and grant officials what could be done with more money.
The next goal is to build a trail from Stadium Drive through the Cardinal Valley Habitat to link with the newly opened trail.
In other news, Amera Wild, a Missouri Master Naturalist and Water Conservationist of the Year, announced that the Friends of Cardinal Valley nonprofit has been established and can be followed on Facebook.
