Our photograph this week was not labeled but we notice several clues as to the location of the shoe repair shop.
The calendar is from the Merchants & Miners Bank of Webb City and is dated April 1928. There is another sign advertising ambulance service by the Webb City Undertaking Co., telephone number 236.
The repair shop seems very crowded, with the large sewing machines and the enormous cash register on the counter. The display case is well stocked with shoe leathers and heels.
We researched the Webb City Sentinel from April 1928 and found J. W. Chastain’s Repair Shop advertising the best shoe repairing with most reasonable rates. It was located at 210 N. Madison St. John Washington Chastain was the owner.
The “Cash Makes No Enemies” sign is still good advice today.
