Passersby on Ivy Road have been stopping to gawk and even take pictures of a fairy ring in Dale and Donna Sill’s front yard. Dale admits not knowing much about the phenomenon. But he did notice in the spring an unusual patch of grass where the mushrooms have formed their circle. He said someone had told him another fairy ring had popped up in the Colonial Drive area of Webb City.

MoDOT is looking to fill open full-time maintenance positions and hire seasonal emergency maintenance equipment operators to supplement the department’s winter weather response efforts in the upcoming months.
Applicants with prior experience looking for temporary employment opportunities are encouraged to apply for open “Emergency Maintenance Equipment Operator” positions through MOCareers. MoDOT is offering greater flexibility for seasonal emergency and volunteer help this season in the form of two shift options, an eight-hour shift and/or a 12-hour shift. There are also full-time maintenance positions available with 12-hour shifts for those looking for a permanent career with MoDOT.
MoDOT currently employs 2,400 maintenance employees across the state to maintain more than 33,000 miles of state routes, but more help is needed, especially in the winter months to treat and plow ahead of, during and after winter weather events.
Minimum starting salary for seasonal winter hires is $19.91 per hour, depending on level of experience, with an additional $3 or $6 per hour based on area of operation. Salaries for full-time maintenance worker positions vary based on experience.
Emergency operator applicants need to be at least 18 years old and successfully complete a criminal background check (a misdemeanor or felony conviction is not an automatic restriction to employment). Applicants must already possess a CDL.
Applicants for full-time Maintenance positions must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED/HiSET, possess a valid driver’s license and have a passing grade on the written portion of the commercial driver’s license (CDL) exam. Applicants must pass the driving portion of the CDL exam with tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions (Class B) and interstate status within 60 days of being hired into a position. Hired applicants must also successfully complete a criminal background check, drug screening, work simulation and physical.
