Oronogo Police Chief Steven Weaver received approval Monday from the Board of Aldermen to accept a grant to purchase two new radar units.
The $4,962 grant is from the Coalition for Road Safety.
Meanwhile, he mentioned that officers are doing pretty well enforcing speed with the units they already have.
He said they’re catching motorists going well above speed limits within the city, including Highway 96, where someone was recently caught going 84 mph. Another example he cited was somebody going 90 mph on County Road 230.
And after the red lights went on, another speeder was clocked at 123 mph while trying to elude officers. Ivy Road is another location where some motorists can’t seem to abide the speed limit.
Weaver also reported that the city’s annual Trunk or Treat event will be held from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, on the parking lot at the Truman school campus.
In other action, the board approved roofing bids to repair hail damage suffered by most city-owned buildings.
Dutton’s Exteriors’ following bids were accepted: $5,390 for the pump house on Ivy Road; $24,950 for the public works building, and $53,725 for eight smaller repairs or replacements.
