The Oronogo Board of Aldermen held a special meeting Monday to issue notices for contractors to proceed with construction of two stormwater improvement projects.
The contract for the Route D and Ruby Jack Trail Stormwater Improvement Project is awarded to Jeff Asbell Excavating and Trucking in the amount of $362,189.
The scope of work includes tree clearing, grading and berm for a detention basin, new box culvert, weir wall and rip-rap (loose stone foundation). There will also be improvement of drainage ditches in the Greystone and Webbwood subdivisions.
Mayor Charles Wilkins said closing on remaining easements to be purchased will be done in time for construction to begin Dec. 4 or earlier. Construction is to be finished within four months.
The contract for the Phase 2 Stormwater Improvement Project is awarded to Sprouls Construction in the amount of $834,253.
Phase 2 will primarily deal with storm water on the unpaved portion of John Street. Sprouls will install 89 feet of storm pipe and 1,658 feet of storm concrete swale and grading, plus 1,302 feet of asphalt paving.
Sprouls is expected to begin construction after a Dec. 3 construction meeting, with the intention to lay the asphalt before extreme cold temperatures.
The engineering firm, Cochran Engineering, of Ozark, Mo., is allowing 150 days for completion of the Phase 2 project.
The projects are being financed with a Department of Natural Resources grant with a 20% match from the city. American Rescue Plan Act funds the city received have been saved for the required match.
