There are more "trees" of lights in the front of King Jack Park this year. More lights and displays, including one paying tribute to Route 66, are further in the park.

Park Christmas lights officially turned on

A year ago, there were a million lights on display in King Jack Park during the holidays.

Mayor Lynn Ragsdale doubled that, saying there are now 2 million lights, as he officially turned them on during a brief ceremony Saturday night. It’s not likely anyone will prove him wrong?

Nevertheless, Bryan Waggoner, director of parks and recreation, attests that there are a lot more lights than last year. They’ll stay on nightly through New Year’s Day.

This is the first of three weekends for the popular Polar Bear Express rides on Streetcar No. 60. Unfortunately, if you don’t have tickets, it’s sold out again.

A real tree was recently planted in front of The W Club.
