Volunteers unpack canned and boxed food for sorting Friday at Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Churches and organizations continue serving the community with the Christmas basket program

Food donated at schools in the Webb City R-7 School District was collected, sorted and distributed to participating organizations Friday at Emmanuel Baptist Church.

As always, the program is spearheaded by the Webb City Ministerial Alliance. Assistance was more than welcome this year from the high school baseball players and students earning community service credit for their honor diplomas.

Participating churches and organizations are now dividing the food among the recipients they will deliver to before Christmas. Recipients are selected from a coordinated list.

The non-perishable food donated by students is typically packaged with meat and dairy goods donated by the churches. Gifts for youngsters in the family are also added.

Yes, like Lucy and Ethel at the chocolate factory, the cans are sorted on a conveyor belt.
Jerry Fisher always ramrods the process.
