The following article announcing the dedication of the Missouri National Guard armory at 600 S. Ellis St. in Webb City, appeared on the front page of the Oct. 15, 1965, Sentinel.
New armory to be dedicated Sunday
Dedication of the new National Guard Armory building, will be held at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, Oct. 17.
Distinguished guests will be introduced by Sen. Richard Webster. Congressman Durward Hall will be the dedicatory speaker. Others who will attend include Maj. General L.B. Adams, adjutant general of Missouri; Major General Russell Boyt, commander of the 35th command headquarters divisional; Brigidier General R. S. Dale, deputy commander of the 35th command headquarters divisional, and Colonel Boyd Brown, chief Army advisor of Missouri. Judge Ray E. Watson will discuss the history of Webb City National Guard. Major Don O Adamson will extend the welcome.
Music at the dedication will be provided by the 135th Army Bank of Springfield.

The former armory structure is now overshadowed as it has become part of Crowder College’s Webb City campus. In front of the original building is a two-story building, the first floor of which doubles as a community safe room.
