The Professional Building, 624 W. Broadway, about the time of its “finishing touches,” c. 1961.

A column entitled “The Webb City New Look” occasionally appeared on the front page of the Webb City Sentinel during the early 1960s. The column featured photographs and commentary on new buildings in town, or old buildings with new owners, or old buildings that had undergone a restoration or update.

The building on the southeast corner of Broadway and Oronogo Street was featured in the July 12, 1963, issue. It is the current location of Dr. Kevin Caldwell.

In 1963, the building had just been given a new look, and its amenities such as air conditioning and soft music were listed as an encouragement to others to spruce up their homes and businesses.

One of the most striking buildings on Broadway, and we might even go so far as to say in Webb City, is the Professional Building, The Gregory Clinic, at 624 W. Broadway, that houses Dr. C.F. Gregory and Dr. E.A. Key.

This clinic was started in 1945 and two years ago, the finishing touches were added. The ornate north and west sides of the building with flower boxes and decorative blocks, sets the building off in a most distinctive manner.

At night, the baby flood lights shine down in the petunia beds on both the north and west sides and certainly makes it a definite show place.

Just a few months ago, an asphaltic-based parking lot was added, capable of accommodating 15 customers’ cars, and the black base of the lot makes the color scheme of the building and the landscaping take on an appearance of elegance.

Inside the clinic, the furnishings and soft music are a pleasure to enjoy a visit to the two doctors and, of course, the air conditioning makes it a pleasure for us to get out of the extreme heat…

…the NEW LOOK in Webb City is adding much to the appearance of the town and should be a definite example for other business houses and plants as well as homes, to follow in the pattern.”
