Golf Road from Broadway to Stadium Drive has been added to the list of Webb City streets to be paved this year.
City Administrator Carl Francis told the City Council Monday that he had forgotten that he promised that neighborhood last year that Golf Road would be paved this year.
It was on the list to be paved last year, but residents asked that it not be paved because raising the street would compound the problem with it being in a flood zone.
So before it is paved this year, Blevins Asphalt, the contractor, will remove a layer of asphalt so the new surface won’t be higher than it is.
Francis said it will cost $12,666 for the milling machine to remove a portion of the existing asphalt and $37,767 for the new asphalt. Again, as with the rest of the paving project, he said the city is getting the work done at a reduced rate because Blevins is allowing Webb City to receive the same bid prices as Joplin.
In the absence of Mayor Lynn Ragsdale, Mayor Pro Tem Jerry Fisher was in charge of the meeting. The start of the meeting was held up for about 15 minutes while waiting for a tardy member to get there. It may have been a time-change issue.
The short agenda included:
• Approval of an easement request by Liberty Utilities across city-owned property to supply electricity to the new Simple Simon’s Pizza building at 111 N. East St. The property has been retained for drainage purposes and is not appropriate to build anything on it. Simple Simon’s is expected to open in April.
• Approval of Police Chief Don Melton’s request to apply for an annual grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation-Highway Safety Division to conduct DWI Wolfpacks, speed enforcement and hazardous moving violation enforcement. He will also ask for a grant to purchase equipment related to enforcement. The city may be required to match the grant by as much as 50%.Melton noted that over the past 20 years the police department has received $837,843 in similar grants.
• Second (final) reading approval of an ordinance allowing the city to post “No Jake Breaking” signs at entrances to the city.
There will be no regularly-scheduled Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on March 16. But there will be a special P&Z meeting on March 30.
The next council meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. March 23.
