Cardinals win second in a row, play again Thursday

The Webb City Cardinals logged their second baseball win of the season Tuesday by defeating John Hersey, of Arlington Heights, Ill., 4-2 at home.

They now face Prospect, Ill., 4:30 p.m. Thursday, again at Missouri Southern State University.

On Friday, they’ll enter the Bill O’Dell Varsity Festival at Carthage against West Plains. They’ll play two games on Saturday: at 11 a.m. against Oak Park, and at 3 p.m. against Warrensburg.

John Hersey took a 2-0 lead in the first inning Tuesday, but the Cardinals tied the game in the third inning and won it with 2 more runs in the sixth.

Mason Young shook off the two runs in the first inning and completed four innings before Tate Lewis finished the last three. Young allowed four hits, and Lewis gave up one hit.

The Cardinals only got three hits, including an RBI double by Young and singles by Trevor Lofland and Dawson McMullen.

Mason Williams got two of the Cardinals’ five stolen bases.

The Cardinals began their season at home Thursday with a 1-0 loss against Carl Junction. They won 11-2 Friday at Bentonville, Ark.
