Route 66 fever

Eli Martin’s had Route 66 fever even before the current fervor over the Mother Road’s 100th anniversary. If you’re lucky, he’ll show you his colorful Route 66 tattoo while he’s processing pictures at Walgreens.

Pop-Up produce distribution

The Alliance of Southwest Missouri will be sharing locally grown organic produce Tuesday afternoon at Comet Park in Carterville.

The event will begin at 2 p.m. and last until the food is gone.

 

Sky Kings R/C Fun Fly and Swap Meet

Sky Kings, the remote-control airplane club, invites spectators to attend their next Fun-Fly and Swap Meet Saturday, June 6.

Club members and guests will begin flying at 9 a.m. and continue until sunset, as weather permits.

There’s no admission charge for spectators. Chairs, hats and maybe umbrellas are recommended.

The Sky Kings airfield is east of East Street on Sharon Drive.

 

Keenagers to musically celebrate America and Route 66

The public is invited to spend an afternoon of music with the Keenagers Choir and the Parsons Community Orchestra, both under the direction of Scott Nelson. This year’s performance will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 31, at the Riverton (Kan.) High School auditorium. The concert is free to the public but donations will be accepted.

The Keenagers Choir will celebrate America’s 250th birthday and Route 66 turning 100. Along with the classic song Route 66, the choir will sing patriotic songs.
