After semifinal wins Wednesday, Webb City will be going for two district championships in the Springfield area on Friday.
Webb City and Carl Junction will vie for the district soccer championship.
The 5 p.m. game at Drury University’s Harrison Stadium, 900 N. Summit Avenue, Springfield, will be a rematch of the season opener, which was a 3-0 home victory for Webb City.
Carl Junction’s Bulldogs have gone on to achieve a better overall record, 17-4, while the 13-6 Cardinals have an equal 6-1 record versus common opponents.
Webb City was seeded first in the Class 3 District 6 tournament. Carl Junction was seeded third behind No. 2 Willard.
The Cardinals opened the district Monday with a 10-0 win over McDonald County and advanced to the final with a 5-1 win Wednesday over the host school, Central.
The Bulldogs defeated West Plains 5-0 in the opening round and Willard 1-0 in the semifinals.
Webb City or Willard, which is the district champ?
The Webb City Cardinals are ranked first in the state. The Willard Wildcats are ranked in the Class 5 District 6 tournament.
They’ll meet at 6 p.m. Friday on the Wildcats’ home field to decide the district championship.
Late Wednesday night, the Cardinals defeated Carl Junction 4-0 in the semifinals.
Mason Young pitched a complete-game shutout as he limited the Bulldogs to 3 hits. He struck out 6 batters and walked 3.
Catcher Mason Williams got the offense started in the 3-run first inning with a run-scoring double. Lake Johnson, the designated hitter, brought home Williams with a double and then scored on Braden Strickland’s single.
Williams hit a lead-off single in the third inning and scored on Young’s sacrifice fly.
The Cardinals, now 28-4, avenged their season-opening 2-0 loss to the Bulldogs, who end their season at 27-10.
In the opening round, Webb City defeated Parkview 24-2.
Willard reached the final by defeating Central and West Plains.
