Look for signs soon that designate a portion of North Madison Street as Ronald L. Lankford Way.

Lankford, who passed away on June 7, 2026, was superintendent for 12 of his 33 years with the Webb City R-7 School District. He came to Webb City in 1977 as the junior high principal and became the high school principal in 1979. In 1998, he succeeded his mentor, Ronald R. Barton, as superintendent.

Immediately following his retirement from Webb City, he commuted for six years to Jefferson City as he served in the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as the deputy commissioner for fiscal and administrative services.

Ronald L. Lankford Way will begin on the south at the entrance to the bus barn, pass by the Central Office, where he was superintendent, then the Ronald L. Lankford Media Center, and Cardinal Stadium, ending on the north at Stadium Drive.

The Liars Club, of which Lankford was the most esteemed member, is partially credited with the movement for the city to honor him. Brenten Byrd, the current superintendent, and retired educator Rick Utter were present, representing the club and school district, on Monday when Mayor Lynn Ragsdale read the following proclamation.

WHEREAS, Dr. Ronald L. Lankford has dedicated years of exemplary service, leadership, and commitment to improving the lives of others through his professional achievements, community involvement, and unwavering dedication to excellence; and

WHEREAS, throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Lankford has positively impacted countless individuals through his wisdom, compassion, mentorship, and service, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues, friends, and community members alike; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Lankford’s contributions have strengthened our community, inspired future generations, and established a legacy of integrity, service, and achievement that will endure for years to come; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to recognize individuals whose extraordinary efforts have made a lasting difference in the community and whose example reflects the highest ideals of civic responsibility and public service; and

WHEREAS, the naming of a public street in honor of Dr. Lankford serves as a permanent tribute to his remarkable accomplishments and ensures that future generations will remember and celebrate his contributions;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that we proudly recognize and honor Dr. Lankford for his outstanding service, dedication, and lasting impact upon our community; and

BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED, that the roadway hereby designated as Ronald L. Lankford Way shall stand as a symbol of gratitude, respect, and appreciation for his many contributions and as an enduring reminder of the positive difference one individual can make in the lives of others.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, this proclamation is presented on this 13th day of July, 2026, in recognition of Dr. Lankford’s exceptional legacy and in celebration of the official naming of Ronald L. Lankford Way.
