James Everett Arrowood, known affectionately as “Handsome Jim,” passed away peacefully on Aug. 5, 2026, in his beloved home in Carterville. Born on June 19, 1945, James lived a life that was defined by his love for Jesus, his family, and his service to his community. He was a loving and inspiring figure whose compassionate nature and generous heart touched countless lives.
James dedicated over three decades of his life to public service, retiring from the City of Carterville Police Department in 2012. He served the community with distinction, earning the titles of commander and chaplain. Once retired, James’s enthusiasm for life found new outlets. He was an ardent RC Plane enthusiast and a skilled Ham radio operator. His love for music found expression in his church, where he led the music. A man of many talents, James even taught karate. His Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he was a devoted member of Faith and New Hope Church in Carterville. His mother, Gwen Arrowood, nurtured the values that defined his life.
Proceeding James in death were his parents; and his daughter, Tabitha Jean Arrowood.
James is survived by his wife, Johnny Lee Arrowood; his son, James Arrowood Jr. and his wife Kari; his sister, Rita Maples; his sister-in-law, Alicia Bennett; grandchildren, Amanda Dumas and her husband Justin, Jacob Arrowood, Micha Spenser, Christopher Arrowood and Elijah Arrowood; great-grandchildren Rose Spenser, Tabitha Dumas, Emma Spencer, Jaxxon Dumas and Ophelia Spenser.
A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at Faith and New Hope Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home.
Oct. 31, 1961 – Aug. 5, 2026
Cecil Clark went to Heaven on Aug. 5, 2026, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Cecil was born on Oct. 31, 1961, to Charles and Vida Clark of Webb City. He attended grade school in Webb City, later attended school in Asbury, and graduated from Carl Junction High School in 1981. Cecil worked at LaBarge, Inc. for 25 years.
Cecil was a devoted member of Born Again Full Gospel Church in Webb City, where he served as Sunday school superintendent. He also faithfully preached on Wednesday nights and some Sunday nights. Cecil loved his church family dearly and had a special friendship with Pastor Miner.
Above all, Cecil loved his family very much. He was especially thankful for his nephew, Jimmy and his wife Angie, for all the help and care they provided to him over the years. Cecil held a very special place in his heart for his great-nieces, Adrianna and Chloe Roberts. He loved all the drawings they gave him and treasured the love they shared. Cecil was deeply appreciative of all the help and kindness his entire family gave him throughout his life.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Vida Clark; two sisters, Dixie Carter and Carol Jo Roberts, and their husbands; nieces and a nephew; two aunts; and three uncles. He was also preceded in death by his precious son, Louis, who passed away in 2017. Cecil missed his son very much and carried him in his heart.
Those left to cherish Cecil’s memory include his two brothers, Richard Clark, of Washington, and Charles Clark and Kathy, of Oronogo; his sister, Delores Reeves and Floyd, of Asbury; and a large host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, friends, and his beloved church family.
Cecil will be remembered for his love of family, his faith, his service to his church, and the kindness he showed to those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services were held Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
Nov. 23, 1941 – Aug. 6, 2026
Barbara Sue Little, 84, of Webb City, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, at Solace House of the Ozarks, following a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
Born in Galena, Kan., Barbara was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She spent more than 25 years working in the transportation industry before retiring. In her retirement years, Barbara enjoyed attending activities at the Galena Senior Citizens and the Redwood Garden Estates of Webb City, where she cherished the friendships and connections she made. She looked forward to her weekly card games and monthly luncheons with classmates.
Barbara found joy in the simple, beautiful things in life – spending time with her family, playing cards with friends, and settling in with a good book. She had a kind heart, a warm spirit, and a way of making those around her feel loved and welcome.
Barbara is survived by her two children, Pam Thomas, of Joplin, and Tony Little and his wife Sara, of Galena; five grandchildren, Jinger Lee, Stefani Pyle, Trenton Little, Trevor Little, and Tyler Little; and seven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Evan, Oakley, Knox, Lillie, Jordan, and Tucker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia and Floyd Wilson; and three brothers, Carl Richard (Dick) Wilson, Garey Wilson, and Floyd Jr. Wilson.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Joplin. Arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Memorial Park.
