The fondly remembered Mining Days festival is finally back. It will be held from 10 a.m. to sunset Saturday at The W Club recreation center in King Jack Park.
There will be activities for kids. In fact, some inflatable games have been purchased by the Parks and Recreation Department for use at other events, as well as Mining Days.

The last Mining Days festival was held in 2007.
It was planned and run by the Mining Days Celebration Committee, with the goal of making enough money to construct a community building.
In 1980, Mining Days replaced the fall festival, which had been held on the Junkerville corner, at MacArthur Drive and College Street.
Mining Days was also created to popularize King Jack Park, which was controversial because the city bought the former mine land in the late 1960s despite public opposition.
Streetcar No. 60 made its debut at Mining Days. After it was restored, it was initially pulled by a tractor. Then it was powered by an air-cooled Corvair engine. Later attempts to self-propel it were succeeded by a unique diesel engine that now pushes the streetcar.
After the goal of building the Mining Days Community Building was reached and several festivals were held there, the committee announced that for the first time in 28 years, there would be no Mining Days festival in 2008.
