“We Are the World,” a celebration of worldwide dance was performed Saturday by dancers from Pinocchio School of Dance and the Webb City High School show choirs, including Bella Vocé and DoMENance (pictured) at the Route 66 Events Center.
Dancers taught by Blanca Flores (right) will appear Tuesday at Webb City Farmers Market’s celebration of Latino heritage.
The entire show will be performed again as part of the Cruise-A-Palooza at 6 p.m. Friday, July 9, at the amphitheater in King Jack Park.
There’s now more to do on the third Tuesdays in Webb City.
Just as the Webb City Farmers Market’s Eat Street is about to resume, starting, Tuesday, May 18, it’s being joined by the new Downtown Wine Walk.
Here’s how the Downtown Wine Walk will work. From 4 to 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday from May to September, shoppers purchasing tickets will be offered wine samples paired with yummy treats as they walk from boutique to boutique.
With the $15 ticket comes a bracelet to be worn on the walk and a souvenir wine tumbler.
To complete the evening, they’re invited to go to Just A Taste, the new winery, restaurant and events center on Main Street, where they’ll be able to purchase glasses and bottles of the wine they sampled.
Registration is online on the Just A Taste website.
Coinciding with the wine walk and late shopping will be Eat Street, the convergence of food trucks at Webb City Farmers Market.
The city’s trolley will transport shoppers between downtown and the market pavilion.
The market is now open each Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. But Eat Street is just on the third Tuesday.

Energy assistance deadline extended and income eligibility increased
Debbie Markman, resource development director of the Economic Security Corporation of SW Area, Joplin, wants to get the word out that new income guidelines include a lot more families and individuals who might need a little help, especially due to the pandemic.
Also, the deadline to apply has been extended until May 31.
Here is the link to ESC’s utility assistance page online for an easy way to apply. Paper applications are still available.
The income guidelines have increased to 60% of the State Median Income (SMI) guidelines.
To be eligible, applicants must:
• Be responsible for paying home heating costs.
• Have $3,000 or less in bank accounts, retirement accounts, or investments.
• All household members must be a U.S. citizen or legally admitted for permanent residence.
• Meet 60% SMI guidelines.

On Thursday, May 13, KOAM-TV will team up with Mercy Health System for a day-long event being called Vaccine Day.
Live news coverage will highlight vaccine efforts across the four states. And a phone bank staffed with health professionals will answer viewer questions about the COVID-19 vaccine.
“We know there are a lot of people in the four states who have questions about the vaccine, and it is important they have accurate information in order to make the best decision for themselves and their families” says Kristi Spencer, KOAM-TV news director.

The public is invited to join in the Joplin History and Mineral Museum’s 90th Birthday Celebration. The event will be held at the museum from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 15. Cake and punch will be available to those attending. Everyone is welcome. The museum also sponsors special events throughout the year.
The Joplin Mineral Museum was dedicated on May 17, 1931. The museum was dedicated to the mining industry of the Tri-State Mining District with a mission of providing the history of the local industry that provided the majority of the zinc ore supply for the United States. Displays include mineral specimens typical of the area’s geology and artifacts of Joplin’s rich history.
