A historic gift of photos shared by Jana Blackwood

One of our members of the Webb City Area Genealogical Society has personally designed scrapbooks compiling photos of her two well-known families – the Tindells and the Veatches.

Jana (Tindell) Blackwood, who graduated from Webb City High School with the class of 1974, organized the photos and graciously shared them for us to copy. Perhaps she’ll make them available for display at a later time in our room on the third floor of the Webb City Public Library.

John Crebbs Veatch, Jana’s grandfather, is in three of the accompanying pictures. He moved to Webb City at the age of 19 with his family in 1890. He initially worked with his father, Snowden Veatch, in the S.H. Veatch Milling Co. JC later ran a grocery store, a pool hall and coal and timber business. He began his real estate business in 1905.

We’re hopeful that Jana’s example will encourage others to share their historic photos to be copied for preservation.

For information about possibly sharing your photos, call the society at (417) 673-0398.
