Archie Dixon
Oct. 1, 1939 – Aug. 31, 2021
Archie Ray Dixon, age 72, of Broken Arrow, Okla., formerly of Carl Junction, passed away on Monday, August 23, at his home.
He was born on Feb. 9, 1949, in Carl Junction, to Clyde and Hazel Dixon. Archie graduated from Carl Junction High School and received a bachelor’s degree in business from Missouri Southern State University. He started working for Archie William’s Grocery Store in Carl Junction while in high school, then went to work for Ken’s & Mazzios Pizza Corporation for 50 years, in Joplin, St. Louis, and Tulsa, until he retired in 2020.
Archie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carl Junction and also Arrow Heights Baptist Church in Broken Arrow. He was saved at a very young age and loved doing Bible Studies and Prophecy Conferences, and also started prayer and Bible groups. When he was a younger man he loved to sing in the church choir.
Some of his other hobbies were reading, collecting and sorting ball cards. He loved to take his mother and father to yearly Army reunions of his dad’s servicemen. Archie also loved extended family gatherings and watching the young ones grow. He attended many ballgames with children of friends and was an “uncle” to many young ones. He was a caregiver to his parents until there death. He was a people person and loved to care for others, and loved to the Lord and was a wonderful witness to others.
Archie is survived by his first cousins, Phyllis Close and husband Bill, Dave Durham, Thelma Bailey, Oleta Williams, Paul Duncan, Dan Duncan, Jim Duncan, Linda Jones, John Jeffries, Jimmy Dale Hamilton; and numerous other second and third cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at Simpson Funeral Home in Carl Junction. The family will be present at 1 p.m. for a memorial visitation. Burial will follow in Carl Junction Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church in Carl Junction or the Gideon Bible.
Sue Gosch
Oct. 1, 1939 – Aug. 31, 2021
Virginia Sue Gosch, 81, died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital Joplin after a brief illness. She was born Oct. 1, 1939, in Madison, Kan., the daughter of William and Ruth Davidson.
Sue graduated from Columbus Kansas High School, Class of 1957. Sue attended Kansas State Teacher College (Pittsburg State University) graduating in 1961. She received a master’s degree in 1986, also from Pitt State.
Sue married Tom Gosch, her college sweetheart, on Jan. 29, 1961. They celebrated 60 years of marriage with their immediate family in January of this year.
Sue began her teaching career in Parsons, Kan., before beginning her 32-year career in the Webb City School District. She served as a classroom teacher at Eugene Field Elementary and Webb City Junior High before becoming the principal at Webster Primary Center.
Sue was celebrating her 50th year as a member of P.E.O. and was also a long time member of the Central United Methodist Church, where she loved singing in the church choir for many years and also helped develop a children’s Sunday school curriculum.
Sue received the Cardinal Award. She and Tom were recognized for being Pillars of Education in 2018. Sue was instrumental in the development of the school district’s Christmas food drive co-sponsored by the Ministerial Alliance. Tom and Sue also enjoyed being the king and queen of the Mining Days Parade many years ago.
Sue was preceded in death by both of her parents. Survivors include her husband Tom; of the home; sons Bret and his wife Carin, Webb City; Bill, rural McDonald County, and Lance and his wife Kelli,Branson West; four grandchildren, Derrick and his wife Amanda, Cade and his wife Dani, Krista, and Cooper; two great-grandchildren, Easton and Emma; a brother, Jon Davidson and his wife Mary Lou, Sugarland, Texas; and a sister-in-law Roberta Gosch, Cyprus, Texas.
A service of remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Central United Methodist Church. A private interment will be at Carterville Cemetery. Those who wish to remember Sue in a special way may make monetary gifts in her memory to Watered Gardens, in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home.
Marjorie Lundien
Sept. 13, 1933 – Aug. 24, 2021
Marjorie “Margie” Carol Lundien passed from this world on to her heavenly home on Tuesday, Aug. 24.
Margie was born on Sept. 13, 1933, in Nevada, Mo., to Buford and Velma Garwood. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Hendrix, of Nevada; two brothers, Norman Garwood, Lamar, and George Garwood, Nevada, and Aunt Dorothamae Merritt, Nevada. She is also survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Margie attended Forrest Park Baptist Church. She loved traveling and her hobbies included treasure hunting, reading, and cooking.
After high school she started her career in the grocery retail industry. She was a member of the Grocers Union and always enjoyed interacting with the public. Margie entered her career in holistic health and healing in the ’90s with Nature Sunshine Products as an independent consultant. She received several recognitions for her outstanding sales and service within Nature Sunshine. She attended Trinity School of Natural Healing and received certificates in nutritional counseling and finally her doctor of naturopathy. Her training and education with Nature Sunshine led to travels throughout the United States and as far as Budapest, Hungary. Margie was always eager to learn and help those she encountered daily. Her passion and great reward was meeting the needs of others through natural health.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at Margie’s Herb Shop, 5112 N. Main St., Joplin. Flowers can be sent to Margie’s Herb Shop. Donations can be made to Peterson Outdoor Ministry or Souls Harbor of America Joplin. Arrangements are under the direction of Midland Cremation.
Ronald Moorehouse
June 30, 1939 – Aug. 28, 2021
Ronald Dean Moorehouse, 82, of Joplin, passed away Saturday in Joplin. Ron was born June 30, 1939, to the late Andy Moorehouse and Helene (Horton) Moorehouse. Ronald married Ann Orr on July 23, 1966, in Webb City.
Ron spent his career in education. From 1972 until his retirement in 1999, he served as the principal of Carl Junction Junior High School, where he was a kind mentor to innumerable students and made lifelong friendships with teachers and fellow administrators. He was known to many in the community as a man of faith and good humor, a pillar of guidance and support.
Ron was a family man. Married for 55 years to Ann, Ron was a devoted husband, father, and grandparent. No life challenge passed without his calm support, and no family member ever left the house before he had checked the oil in the car and wiped down the windshield.
Survivors include his wife, Ann; daughter Amy Moorehouse, Nashville, Tenn.; daughter Kathy Moorehouse (Jan Franklin), Charlotte, N.C.; son Brett Moorehouse (Jennifer), St. Louis; brothers Larry Moorehouse (Patty) and Ray “Moose” Moorehouse; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Penny Coates, and brother Robert Moorehouse.
A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 2, at Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family kindly asks anyone attending to bring a face mask.

Gary Nelson
Oct. 11, 1942 – Aug. 29, 2021
Gary Lee Nelson, 78, of Webb City, passed away Sunday at his home with family by his side.
Gary was born Oct. 11, 1942, in Carthage, the son of Lee Nelson and Gladys (Lambeth) Nelson. He was a 1960 graduate of Carthage High School.
Gary married the love of his life, Judy Turpen, on May 21, 1965, in Alba. He worked as a farmer for most of his life and ran heavy equipment. For the past 18 years, he has been the Jasper County Roads superintendent. He was a member of the Jasper County Young Farmers, Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, and attended the Purcell Baptist Church. Gary enjoyed pheasant hunting, going to the coffee shop, but most of all, loved his family.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Judy Nelson; two sons, Roger Nelson and wife Lisa, Webb City, and Michael Nelson and fiancée Tonya Blankenship, Alba; a sister, Patty Law, Carthage; and his precious boxer, Maddie. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held at 2 pm, Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Knell Mortuary in Carthage. Burial followed the service in Park Cemetery, Carthage. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Compassus or Purcell Baptist Church, in care of Knell Mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of Knell Mortuary.
Patricia Norvell
Feb. 24, 1944 – Aug. 27, 2021
Patricia Norvell, age 77, of Webb City, passed away unexpectedly on Friday.
She was born Feb. 24, 1944, in Joplin to Dueward and Marilyn (Harryman) Wolfe. She worked in several different fields but was very skilled in the medical field. She was most recently the owner of Happy Candle House.
Patricia is survived by four daughters, Christina Bay, Joplin, Cherie Wallace, Joplin, Jamie Pendleton, Kansas City, and Melissa Roughton, Webb City; stepson, Chuck Pendleton, Springfield; two brothers, Michael Wolfe and Ike Wolfe; six grandchildren, Shaeleigh Snyder, Lesley Wallace, Jenna Cue, Alexander Patterson, William Patterson, Courtney Barnard; and four great-grandchildren. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Burial was in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
Amy Schenck
April 20, 1982 – Aug. 27, 2021
Mrs. Amy Elizabeth Schenck, 39, of Webb City, departed this life on Friday at South City Hospital in St. Louis.
Amy entered this life on April 20, 1982, in Nevada, Mo., born to the union of John and Pamela Jean (LaFon) Wingert. She was raised in Golden City and was a 2000 graduate of Golden City High School. She has resided in Webb City the last 20 years. For nearly 20 years, Amy has worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. She attended worship services at Bible Believers Baptist Church in Carterville. She enjoyed baking, reading and time spent with her family and friends.
Her mother, Pamela; and a brother, Brandon Gilmore, preceded her in death.
On June 14, 2014, she was united in marriage with Steven Schenck, and he survives. Additional survivors include her two daughters, Breanna and Cali Butcher; two stepdaughters, Samantha and Jayden Schenck; her father, John Wingert and his wife, Paula; a brother, Bryan Wingert; her maternal grandmother, Clarice Trimble; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home, with Gary Vinson officiating. Private burial will follow at Heaven’s Gate Cemetery in Golden City, with family serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home.
Helen Willis
Feb. 26, 1931 – Aug. 27, 2021
Helen D. Willis, age 90, of Webb City, passed away on Friday at Mercy Hospital Springfield.
Ms. Willis, daughter of the late Walter and Viola (Christman) Jordan, was born on Feb. 26, 1931, in Racine, Mo. She was a lifelong area resident having attended school and working in the area most of her life in hotel hospitality and housekeeping. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Destiny Church when her health allowed her. She was a collector of angels and later enjoyed watching and collecting red cardinals. She was known to enjoy country music and driving in her red 66 Mustang convertible. But most importantly, Helen cherished the time spent and memories created with her family.
Survivors include the father of her four children, Theodore Jeffers, Joplin; a son, David Jeffers and his wife, Ruth, Joplin; three daughters, Darlene Rodriques, Joplin, Barbara York, Webb City, and Norma Hampton and her husband Rick, Overland Park, Kan.; two brothers, Robert Jordan, Carthage, and Leroy Jordan, Oronogo; a sister, Hazel Banks, Carl Junction; grandchildren, Debbie Badgwell, Shona Watkins, Christy Montgomery, Julie Dittmer, Stacey Hampton, Brian Hampton, and David B. Jeffers; 15 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Reynolds Eugene Jeffers; three brothers, Walt Jordan, Marvin Jordan and Carl Ray Jordan; and four sisters, Inez Scott, Virginia Prigg, Wanda Williams and Lois Foster.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Carterville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home.
