The Asian Food Festival held in King Jack Park last weekend was such a success that organizers say they want to return twice a year.
Bryan Waggoner, director of parks and recreation, says he was impressed that there was a crowd from open to close (11 p.m.) all four days. The event opened Thursday and ended Sunday night.
Waggoner says people seemed to enjoy the diversity of the food, and there was a “great community feeling.” In addition to the food vendors, there was a dance floor, DJ and Karaoke.
By mid-morning Monday, everything had been packed up, and the vendors were presumably on the road back to Florida.
Waggoner says they did a great job of providing portable restrooms and large dumpsters… and leaving King Jack Park the way they found it.
He says an organizer told him they would like to come back in the spring, with details to be worked out later, depending on other events they may be putting on in the Midwest. Then they would return in August to coincide with Marian Days in Carthage.
Waggoner’s department is now gearing up for fall sports leagues and the return of the Mining Days Festival on Sept. 12.
