Before brick streets and the ban on wood buildings downtown

Our archives have produced another amazing find – a printer’s plate that was used to print early-day photos of Webb City in the 1922 King Jack yearbook.

We found it in the “Webb family box.” Perhaps the Webb family contributed the photos and they were given the plate after the yearbook was printed.

Unfortunately, we can’t find the photos that were used to make the plate. Below are reproductions of the 1922 yearbook pages.

The pictures were considered historical when they were printed in the yearbook because most of the early wood structures had been replaced by brick buildings and the dirt streets had been covered with bricks by 1922.
