Big yes vote (76%) for R-7 School bond issue
Voters in the Webb City R-7 School District gave a big thumbs up Tuesday to the School Board’s $11 million bond issue proposal.
The issue passes by a vote of 1,116-352 in Jasper County, which is a 76% majority.
The bond issue will primarily be used to finance improvements at Webb City High School, including an addition with new science and family and consumer science classrooms, the renovation of Cardinal Theatre and installing turf on the old soccer field for multiple uses.
Webb City Mayor Lynn Ragsdale was reelected with a 559-132 victory over 3rd Ward Councilman Jonathan Shull.
Oronogo Mayor Charles Wilkins was reelected with 138 votes. There were 30 write-in votes. We’ll have to find out who the new 2nd Ward alderman will be. Incumbent Jason Grossman didn’t file for reelection. All that was known on election night is that there were 22 write-in votes.
There will be two new members of the Carterville City Council after some tight races.
1st Ward incumbent Warren Myers was defeated by Darlene Taylor 46-40.
Bryan Crane defeated Justin Lawson 22-21 for the vacant 3rd Ward seat.
And Cris Henkle kept her 4th Ward seat by only one vote, defeating Alison Pendergrass 40-39.
Jason Meyer was unopposed in the 2nd Ward.
Elsewhere, the property-tax increase to renovate and expand Joplin Memorial Hall was soundly defeated. The 1,751 yes votes were only 46.4% of the vote. There were 2,023 no votes.
