Boys and Girls Club now provides a safe place for kids after summer school

For the first time, the Boys and Girls Club of Southwest Missouri is offering its after-school program in Webb City – after summer school classes.

During a ribbon-cutting Tuesday at Webster Primary Center, Sarah McMullen, chief executive officer of the organization, thanked the Webb City R-7 School District for collaborating to expand the Boys and Girls Club services.

“I’ve heard it’s increased enrollment” in summer school, McMullen said.

Participating students from kindergarten through fifth grade get what McMullen called an action-packed, nice, safe place to be after school.

Once summer school ends on June 25, the students are welcome to attend the Boys and Girls Club in Joplin.

The Boys and Girls Club operates its after-school program at three locations in Webb City during the regular school year.

On Facebook, McMullen calls attention to the effect proposed federal budget cuts would have on the children served by her organization.

Friends! Please consider adding your voice by using the link below today. This isn’t about taking political sides; it’s about our youth and their futures.

Reach out to Congress and let them know that our kids NEED after-school and summer programs like the Boys & Girls Club. The 2026 FY budget proposes a complete cut of 21st Century Community Learning Center funds, which would be a devastating blow to our organization and many others. Please read my letter below to better understand the impact of losing this grant.
