Cardinals advance to take on unbeaten Carthage in district final
The Webb City Cardinals took care of Republic 35-7 Friday in order to get a rematch with Carthage in the Class 5 District 6 final this week.
Which of the two teams moves on in the playoffs will be decided at 7 p.m. Friday at Carthage.
The 7-3 Cardinals were in a similar situation in 2020 when they upset Carthage 42-21. The Tigers are undefeated again, 10-0.
In the fourth week of this season, Webb City lost at Carthage 42-14.
Cade Wilson scored Webb City’s first touchdown, a 44-yard run, against Republic in Cardinal Stadium last week.
In the second quarter, he and Dupree Jackson both finished drives with 2-yard rushing touchdowns.
After halftime, Jackson scored on an 18-yard run, and Cohl Vaden threw to Dante Washington for a 16-yard touchdown.
Republic stopped the clock from running in the fourth quarter with a 57-yard touchdown end the scoring at 35-7.
Jackson had a 101-yard night on 15 carries, while Wilson carried 11 times for 85 yards. Vaden completed four of six passes for 85 yards.
Braxton Surber, Buddy Belcher, Lucas Ott and Kaylor Darnell all had five tackles each.
