The Webb City Cardinals finished their season Saturday as the fourth best Class 5 team in Missouri.
They began final-four play Friday at Ozark with a 4-0 loss to St. Francis Borgia.
Borgia’s Knights took a 1-0 lead in the third inning and extended it with three runs in the sixth.
Winning pitcher Jack Nobe held the Cardinals to two hits. The Cardinals starter, Kaylor Darnell, allowed five hits before being relieved in the sixth.
On Saturday, Webb City and Ft. Zumwalt South were tied at 2 through 10 innings. Webb City scored one run in the 11th, but the Bulldogs managed two runs in the bottom of the 11th to claim the third-place trophy.
2023 was coach Andrew Doennig’s first season as head coach. He’s saying goodbye to 10 seniors: Cy Darnell, Kaylor Darnell, Kenley Hood, William Hayes, Walker Sweet, Eli Miller, Landon Johnson, Tyler Marbut, Gage Chapman and Evan Freeman.
