Cardinals bounce back with two wins after second loss of the season

Two home baseball contests next week

The 12-2 Webb City Cardinals baseball team bounced back after its 8-4 home loss to Joplin Thursday to win 7-4 at Nixa Saturday and 8-0 Monday at Carthage.

Staying on the road, the Cardinals will be at Ozark Thursday and Colgan on Friday.

They’ll be home again Tuesday and Thursday, April 20 and 22, against Willard and Branson, respectively.

Varsity track at Joplin Friday

Webb City varsity track squads will compete Friday at Joplin.

Both varsity teams won their first meet, which was at Carthage.

The team’s standout performances at Carthage include:

  • Pryce Mason, first place in pole vault, 14’7” (school record and meet record)
  • Mekhi Garrard, second place in triple jump (3” from school record)
  • Luke Brumit, first in high jump, 6’4”
  • Emily Beres, second in shot put 39’4”
  • Haidyn Berry, first in javelin 127’10”
  • Riley Hawkins, first in the 1600 (5:28), 800 (2:33), and 3200 (11:49)

“I’m really proud of the team effort from both the boys and girls teams,” says coach Dustin Miller. “Several kids stepped up and competed well.”

The junior varsity teams both took first place at their first, which was at McDonald County.

Webb City girls soccer at home Thursday vs. Ozark

The Webb City girls soccer team has three consecutive shut-outs coming into their home game vs. Ozark Thursday, April 15.

After their 4-1 loss at Glendale Thursday, April 8, they defeated Logan-Rogersville 4-0 and Springfield Central 6-0 in the Parkview tournament. Then on Monday they went to Joplin for an 8-0 win.

On Tuesday, the team will be at Willard.
