Cardinals continue scoring surge going into Kaminsky Classic

The Webb City Cardinals are heading into Joplin’s Kaminsky Classic Thursday afternoon after dominating McDonald County 81-38 Tuesday. They also defeated St. Joseph Central 84-65 last week in the 12 Courts of Christmas at Kansas City. In fact, they’ve exceeded 80 points in their last four games.

The Cardinals took first place in the Kaminsky Classic a year ago and hope to be in the championship game for the fourth year in a row. They open the tournament at 2 p.m. Thursday against William Chrisman.

In the dome Tuesday, the Cardinals improved their record to 7-2, making 52% of their field goals, and four players scored in double figures. Barron Duda led with 19 points, followed by Holton Keith, 14; Omari Jackson, 13, and Eli Pace, 12. Webb City led 38-17 at the half and 71-29 to start the fourth quarter.

The Joplin tourney continues Friday and Saturday. Then the Cardinals will be home again Tuesday against East Newton.

Cardinals finish strong in 44-36 win over Nevada

The Webb City girls’ offense came alive in the fourth quarter Tuesday for a 44-36 home win against Nevada. They trailed 24-23 before outscoring the Tigers 21 to 12 in the fourth quarter.

Whitlee Keith scored 8 of her game-high 15 points at the free-throw line. Abby Sargeant scored 13.

The Cardinals (4-7) will be home again Thursday against Logan-Rogersville.
