The football Cardinals weren’t the only ones to beat Nixa last week.
The softball team got a 13-3 home win in six innings on Thursday against Nixa.
Chasney Brown’s 2-run home run was the highlight of the Cardinals’ 6-run first inning.
Noa Shewmake and Brecklynn Sargent both doubled to start the second inning. They were brought home by Brown’s single to left field.
Abby Sargent hit a one-run home run in the third inning, and Jayden Houston scored on Alivia Coleman’s single in the fourth inning.
Houston and Shewmake both singled in the 3-run sixth inning.
Brown and LaeKyn Smotherman both had four RBIs. Addy Burns got the win, going all six innings.
The Cardinals’ 12-8-1 season record took a hit on Friday and Saturday at the Branson tournament when they were defeated by four Oklahoma teams (West Moore, Marlow, Lone Grove and Silo).
They got back on track Tuesday as they defeated the Tigers at Ozark 7-2.
Avery Burns allowed both of Ozark’s runs in the first inning before clamping down. The only hit against her was in the first inning. She struck out 11.
Brooklynn Sargent got Webb City on the scoreboard in the third inning with an RBI single.
LaeKyn Smotherman led off the Cardinals’ 5-run fifth inning with a single, advanced on sacrifice bunts and scored on Brecklynn Sargent’s single. Singles by Jayden Houston, Chasney Brown and Alivia Coleman, along with an error and wild throw accounted for the other four runs.
In the sixth, Abby Sargent hit a triple and was brought home by Noa Shewmake’s RBI single.
The Cardinals will be at home Thursday against Joplin.
