Cardinals ranked 2nd in districts, play at 4 p.m. Monday



The 25-4 Webb City Cardinals are seeded second in the Class 5 District 6 tournament, behind the host Willard Wildcats (26-7).

The Cardinals, on a 13-game winning streak, defeated the Wildcats 5-3 when they played here on April 28.

In the opening round on Monday at Willard, Webb City will play seventh-seeded Parkview at 4 p.m. Willard will play Central at noon, West Plains will play Hillcrest at 2 p.m., and Carl Junction, the third seed, will play McDonald County at 6 p.m.

Semifinals will be at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by the final at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals have one more regular-season game, which will be at home Thursday against Seneca.

On Tuesday, the Cardinals went to Joplin for a 1-0 win that gave them a perfect 6-0 record in the Central Ozark Conference West Division.

Mason Young worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning and then held the Eagles in check, scattering five hits in the complete game shutout.

Last Thursday, the Cardinals got a 10-0 home win over Neosho. Then they went to Monett on Monday for a 13-3 win. Their winning streak now stands at 13.
