Cardinals get first win in a big way

Cardinals recover the Bulldogs’ fumble to set up their first touchdown.

The Webb City Cardinals have won their first game and are looking for a second when they host Republic Friday night.

They dominated the Bulldogs 47-7 last Thursday, Sept. 1, at Carl Junction.

Webb City scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and two in the second to take a 34-0 lead at the half.

Aidan Alberty’s 30-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter set the game clock running without stopping. Breckin Galardo completed the Cardinals’ scoring with a 5-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Quarterback Landon Johnson scored the first of the three first-quarter touchdowns with a 26-yard run. Omari Jackson scored the second, putting the Cardinals ahead 12-0 by powering it in from 1 yard out.

With 22 seconds left in the first quarter, Dante Washington returned a punt 83 yards for a touchdown.

Washington scored again in the second quarter as he took the snap and kept it, running 37 yards. Omari Jackson scored 2 points after the TD.

Cole Cavitt ended the first-half scoring with a 21-yard touchdown run. Washington kicked the extra point.

Webb City’s defense held the Bulldogs to 190 yards total offense. More stats are on the Players of the Week page.

Republic also evened its record at 1-1 last week with a 51-13 win at home vs. Ozark. The Tigers’ first-game loss was 56-26 at Carthage.

Softball team wins three straight

The softball Cardinals are on a three-game winning streak as they prepare for a trip to Willard Thursday.

They defeated Monett and Seneca Saturday at the Joplin invitational tournament and on Tuesday went to Carl Junction for a 10-4 win.

The Cardinals will be at home again Monday against Rolla. They’ll go to Carthage Tuesday and return home Thursday to play Nixa.

The Webb City softball program has now notched 800 games, according to Ron Lankford, who was the principal when the program started in 1994.

2-1 soccer team at home Thursday

Webb City soccer is 2-1 on the season after a 2-overtime loss to Neosho at home Tuesday.

The Cardinals and Wildcats were tied at 1 before Neosho’s successful penalty kick.

There are two home games next week – Tuesday against Ozark and Thursday against Logan-Rogersville.

Volleyball wins first home game in straight sets

Webb City’s volleyball team will be in the Cardinal Dome Thursday, Sept. 8, against Rogers Heritage.

The Cardinals are coming off a 3-0 home win (25-8, 25-11, 25-21) last Thursday against Harrisonville.

Kate Brownfield led with 11 kills. Aubree Lassiter and Brenda Lawrence added 8 and 6 kills, respectively. Kyah Sanborn had 27 sets.

On defense, Sophia Crane had 19 digs.

Webb City will be home again Monday against Bentonville and will host a quad on Saturday, Sept. 17.
