The Webb City Cardinals got the loud, supportive home crowd they wanted Saturday in the Cardinal Dome – but not the win they needed to launch them to the final four.
Their season ended in the quarterfinals 3-1 against Jefferson City, which instead went to the Class 4 final four at Cape Girardeau. The Jays won their first match Wednesday and will be playing for first place Thursday.
Webb City came back after losing the first set to win the second. But Jeff City won the third and fourth sets.
The Cardinals were district champs for the fourth year in a row and had a record of 28-9-1.
It was the last game for the high school careers of seniors Mia Lenker, Kirra Long and Alix Davis.
The Webb City Sentinel isn’t a newspaper – but it used to be, serving Webb City, Missouri, in print from 1879-2020. This “newspaper” seeks to carry on that tradition as a nonprofit corporation.
