Cardinals' season ends in quarterfinals

There were few Webb City highlight opportunities for photographers to record Friday night when the home-team Cardinals were soundly defeated in the quarterfinals by the Platte County Pirates.

The 2024 Cardinals will best be remembered for improving each week and perservering after six losses to advance through districts and claim the championship by upsetting Carthage.

In his postgame interview with KNEO, coach Ryan McFarland praised his players for playing hard and having a good second half of the season.

The Cardinals were 6-6 going into the quarterfinal against the 11-0 Pirates.

It was 21-0 at the half, and the Pirates scored their fifth touchdown for a 35-0 lead before the end of the third quarter to run the fast clock.

Platte County will be at home Saturday in the semifinals against MICDS. On the other side of the Class 5 state bracket, Helias defeated Republic to face Lafayette.
