The Webb City Cardinals are in the home stretch, literally, with two home kickoffs before districts. This week, the 3-4 Cardinals host the 6-1 Carthage Tigers. Joplin will be here Oct. 25.

Carthage is at the top of the district rankings, while Webb City is fourth.

The Cardinals gained confidence, especially in passing, last week with their 41-6 win at Willard.

Fisher Derrick scored the first of six Cardinal touchdowns as he caught a 17-yard pass from Jackson Lucas. Also in the first quarter, Mason Williams ran from 4 yards out to give the Cardinals a 14-0 lead.

Braden Strickland passed to Gus Karnes for a 12-yard touchdown. After the Cardinals’ defense allowed the Tigers to score their lone touchdown, the first half ended with Webb City ahead 21-6.

In the third quarter, Williams broke loose for a 32-yard touchdown run, and Slade Hurd scored from 1 yard out of the end zone.

Joseph DeGraffenreid ended the scoring with a 67-yard touchdown pass from Lucas.
