Cardinals win first Frontenac tourney championship

The fourth time was the charm as the Webb City Cardinals captured the title at the Four State Raider Classic Saturday at Frontenac, Kan. They made it to the finals the first three years but have finished as the runner-up until this year.

Webb City closed the tourney with a 90-61 win over the Life Prep Academy Fire, from Wichita, Kan.

Dante Washington scored 21, followed closely by Kaden Turner with 20 and Trey Roets with 18 to lead the Cardinals victory. 

For the second time in three games, Webb City showed off its depth on the bench as 12 different players found their way into the scoring column.

Cohl Vaden was named tournament MVP with Turner and Washington also being named to the all-tournament team.

Vaden was the points leader in the semifinal Friday when the Cardinals defeated Christian Heritage 81-62.

In the opening round, Webb City defeated Nevada 70-29.

The Cardinals extended their winning streak to four Tuesday while never trailing the Hillcrest Hornets and won 60-54. 

Washington was 11 of 15 from the field as he scored 24 points. Vaden scored 10 and was credited with five assists. Turner added 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Roets scored 10 and had six rebounds.

The 13-4 Cardinals have four away games before they return to the Cardinal Dome on Feb. 8 to play Carl Junction. Homecoming will be Feb. 11 against Nixa.

The away games are at Springfield Catholic, Friday; Willard, Tuesday; Branson, Friday, Feb. 4, and Norwood at Baptist Bible College, Monday, Feb. 7.
